Apply to the Honor Council

The Honor System is a set of standards that outline expectations from all members of our community. It is upheld by students, faculty and deans. The Honor Council administered the Honor Policy

What members do

• Serve on hearing boards that determine whether a violation occurred and recommend sanctions. Members can expect to sit on one hearing per semester on average.
• Act as consultants to peers whose cases are under review.
• Contribute to outreach so that fewer cases arise in the first place.

What we look for

There is no single profile. Members come from every school and every year. What the work rewards is the ability to hold two things at once: real seriousness about academic integrity, and real fairness toward the person in front of you.

• Discretion. Everything you hear is confidential.
• Willingness to sit with ambiguity rather than reach for the quickest answer.
• Care for people who are frightened, defensive, or embarrassed.

Eligibility

Undergraduate and graduate students from any school may apply. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing. First-year students are welcome to apply, though they will not be assigned to hearings during their first semester.
